Sevastopol

Sevastopol is a unique city, known worldwide despite its relatively young age. Located in the southwest of the Crimean Peninsula, the coastline around Sevastopol is unique to Crimea, featuring dozens of non-freezing, well-protected bays, with rocky capes serving as natural citadels. Sevastopol Bay is considered one of the most convenient bays in the world.

It is the largest city on the Crimean Peninsula, a non-freezing sea fishing and trade port, an industrial, scientific, technical, and cultural-historical center of the country, and the base of the Black Sea Fleet. Sevastopol is a Hero City, steeped in the combat glory of several generations, destined to be a “city of glory,” which is how its name translates from Greek. There are not many cities in Russia that have had to play such a pivotal role in the country's history so many times.

Sevastopol is often called an open-air museum city. It houses hundreds of monuments and historical landmarks, most of which are associated with events from two legendary wars—the siege of the city during the Crimean War of 1853-1856 and the Battle of Sevastopol in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Although Sevastopol is young, counting its years from 1783, its territory includes Chersonesus, a city several millennia old, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Sevastopol is famous for its warm climate, which is not much different from that of the Southern Coast of Crimea, picturesque surroundings, and clean beaches. The region boasts diverse flora and fauna. Sevastopol has many attractions interesting for lovers of history, architecture, and nature, and hosts a variety of events. It is no wonder the city is included in the interregional tourist route “Golden Ring of the Bosporus Kingdom.”
